aquarium drunkard > a great podcast

after deleteating all of my music from my macbook and only keeping my podcasts, i have become enamored of aquarium drunkard's podcast. ok, so the music quality isn't the highest all the time, but frankly i don't care. he's got great diversity, lovely themes, and posts daily on great music. keep up the good work!

today, my old buddy dj double barrel released an insane podcast... it's one of the finest jamaican mixes!

Entertaining the iSoul

broadcast is dead. saturday was the first time in two months i sat down to watch television, not for any particular reason other than to turn off my brain. yet, i didn't even watch normal programming - over a bowl of life and raisins, i watch war of the worlds on-demand.

as for the past few months, i find my self wandering the streets of new york looking for graffiti. while in my apartment, i find my self laying on the couch reading past issues of the new yorker or the economist. for some reason with the current state of the world, i wait a few weeks for news to grow old and then attempt to digest. maybe i have my head up my own ass, but at least i don't get so angry...

...yeah, so with that type of intro i'm sure you're wondering what really does entertain the beast? vlogs and podcasts...

vlogs

  • the burg - a sit-com based in williamsburg, bklyn. the burg is continuously providing an entertaining view of the community i call home. the shows are produced by my rockstar buddy kathleen, who's way to hip to even live in the burg; she now calls harlem home.
  • The PAN - it's a bit PSA, MTV, current.tv and infomercial. always entertaining with short video clips of things you never knew existed. though the show is based out of nyc; i'm beginning to wonder if this could be broken up into smaller geo centric feeds...
  • four eyed monsters - i will easily call this the future of movies. somewhere between fiction and reality, aaron and susan give us unique view of diy movie distribution, love and psychosis. my favorite segment features aaron, emo tuned to 11, breaking down on camera and crying about net neutrality. i wonder how he did it? watch it and find out the true meaning of insanity. ;)
  • scopitones - before MTV there was Scopitone. looking for vintage videos that will give you a bit of groove? don't go any further!
  • TikiBar TV - one oz sassy; one oz entertaining; two oz intoxicating... this team has consistently cracked the whip on all things funny.

podcasts and last.fm - there is nothing better than sweet random music... i am a huge fan of last.fm - a social networking site dedicated to noting your musical taste and informing you of other music you might like. it's REALLY really great software! i'd like to think that i have complex taste in music, but last.fm has proven me wrong. i also devour a great deal of podcasts.

  • double barrel soundsystem - podcast based in las vegas and dj'ed by my old buddy paul arndt; paul provides a weekly mix of ska and vintage jamaican tunes.
  • Too Much Rock - fellow boston strangler and couchsurfing.com host - sid is now broadcasting out of chi town and smashing the preconceived notion that rock is dead.
  • downtown soulville with DJ fine wine - fine wine's blog - the best damn vintage 45 show on the internet.
  • npr: all songs considered - amazing new artists and live recording from the 9:30 club in dc. the host, bob boilen, gives me a sold reason to buy new and old music and ponder the world of literary rock-n-roll.
  • sound opinions - hosts, jim and greg, have one of the worlds only talk show on rock. if your into trivia, tidbits, history and opinion - listen, learn and regurgitate at your next trivial pursuit outing.
  • alt.NPR: Groove Salad Taste of the Week - public radio is such an odd sphere. when growing up in ohio it was all jigs and whiskey clank 45's. since my arrival on the east cost, public radio is a jar of uncatagorical jam. as a huge fan of soma.fm and npr, it's great to see these two come together and pass along what's interesting in ambient, electro-world-beat and differentially on the beaten path.
