coworking in manhattan, an update

Panorama of CoworkingNYC

three weeks after our initial barcamp nyc 2 conversation, Jeff Ng & Matthew Pelletier of eastmedia have decided to open their company's doors for a weekly session for coworking in manhattan. situated a few blocks away from amit gupta's original coworking sessions, aka jelly - coworking manhattan is already affectionally titled the whip.

the doors are always open! one our goals is to facilitate a weekly session of interested parties for a more formal space. over the next few months, we will lay down a business model of a larger manhattan space. in that time, we hope to expand Coworking Manhattan into two days. check out the coworking manhattan wiki and consider joining us next tuesday, 24 october 2006!

there is an interesting sub-story, eastmedia is a Ruby on Rails, an open-source programming language, development shop. as founders of the NYC's Ruby user group, not only do they love open-souce, they love independents! Jeff and Matthew want to build physical networks in the open source community. as in salesforce collaborative blog post, there is inherent value in physical networks, and as the open-source community grows. the value in having face to face innovation is critical. the value of co-opetition is growing, and i firmly believe Coworking will take us to the next step.
